Exclusively Fashion Magazine:
Can you tell me how your career began as
a makeup artist?
Valeria Orlando:
My career began many years ago.
Exactly in 1991 when I finish my first academy in Milan
with Stefano Anselmo.
EFM: C an you tell me how
important do you think it is to be represented by an
agent?
VO:
Depend on city! I live in Rome
and here I work without agency, but I represented
also in Milan, Barcelona, Sweden and Rio. When
you work around the world it is very important
because you can have more opportunity by agency.
EFM: What
is the best advice someone has given you?
VO:
Work with
professionalism, humility and to do so much research,
stay updated always!
EFM: How important do you think it
is to assist an established makeup artist?
VO:
To create groups of solid collaboration, not ever bring
their personal problems on the working set, constantly
update the professional networks, always have an updated
website, work with passion forever!
EFM: What has been
your favorite collaborations?
VO:
My favourite collaborations was
Versace Maison: I worked for Donatella personal and for
her catwalks. I have had many opportunities to
work with Mario Testino (Fashion/Portrait Photographer)
some years ago and now I work with very professional
photographers that love my work. Only
someone: Eolo Perfido, Andrea Massari, Stefania
Paparelli and Susi Belianska.

EFM: What gives you inspiration?
VO:
My inspiration are in my soul, in
my mind and in my heart: I look forward for news, but all
I see has already been done!
EFM: Do you ever feel like you
have to reinvent yourself?
VO:
Happen very often in this
work of having to reinvent yourself! This depends
on the customers, the market, the financial crisis.
Important thing is to keep as much as possible on the
wave!
EFM:
What are your favorite makeup brands?
VO:
My
product....obvious! I created my brand V or by
Valeria Orlando, because I was tired about other brands:
My line goes on sale in the coming months on my site
www.valeriaorlando.com , but I move very well
to my students, colleagues and private courses.
EFM:
Tell me something that no one knows about you?
VO:
I
am an open book, my friends and colleagues know me very
well!
EFM: What advice can you give to
aspiring makeup artists?
VO: Be
humble, passionate, generous and creative.
